iowa winter

The past few weeks have been crazy when it comes to the weather. Ugh, I hate Iowa's weather sometimes. Last Thursday we were suppose to have this HUGE storm, that only gave us a few inches. Then this week was suppose to be fine and suddenly here it comes. Frustrating. But I can't help but think the snow is pretty.

Inspiration: Pixie Hair - Oscars 2013

I watched the Oscars last night and the one thing that stood out to me was, pixie hair. I'm going through a long hair crisis right now, so I'm loving short hair. If you watched the Oscars or saw highlights then you probably saw Charlize Theron's hair... perfect.

This image is from Ryan Seacrest.com In her interview she stated that she had to cut her hair for a new role. She said it was freeing and that every woman should do it. I completely agree, will I ever do it? Probably not. Even though my hair has been almost every color of the rainbow,  cutting it super short is out of my league. Maybe if I got paid thousands and thousands for a movie roll, I would ;) Charlize cannot go wrong! If she had a bald head and wore a trashbag she would still be amazing.

My Second favorite hair of the night was Anne Hathaway, obviously

Anne is quickly becoming one of my favorite actresses, specially after Cat Woman! She looked amazing last night. It's a shame her two girls got so much attention... I mean, they have their own Twitter account...

No intro needed.

You can see more of her here.

What was your favorite part of the Oscars? Do you think I should chop off my hair?
 Have an amazing Monday.

Beauty Sundays

Today is Sunday, that means beauty day. I try every Sunday to make myself over again. That entails face masks, nail job, and bad eating? Ok, I try to eat healthy on Sundays, but it's so haaard.

If you know how face masks work, then you understand that the only thing you can move when it's dry is your eyes. I think they are saying "help me"

I love my Freeman face mask. It makes my face feel so soft, which is the perfect way start to my Sunday beauty routine.

Review: Flower by Drew Barrymore

Last week I bought a new lip liner, Flower by Drew Barrymore. I promised I would do a review and here it it.

Review: I love how smooth it went on, it's almost creamy. It was so easy to just follow the lines of my lips. The color of it is gorgeous and you get the color on the first application, you don't have to go over it again and again. It's perfect, I will definitely be buying more lip liners from the Flower brand.

The reason I chose the Plum LP5 was because I thought it would go great with my CoverGirl Lipperfection Lipcolor - Spellbound 325, and it does. I realized I prefer to see the difference in color from my lip liner and lipstick, so I like a darker lip liner. CoverGirl Lipperfection is my favorite lipstick!

Have you tried either of these products? What are your favorite lip liners?

Looks: Hippie Hair Saturdays

My look for today involved my hippie hair. Check out all the details to my outfit here!

Tutorial: "Hippie Hair"

As soon as my boyfriend saw my hair he said "hey dude, peace and love" Therefore, I call this one, hippie hair.

  1. Straighten your hair, or in my case, try!
  2. Pull a section of hair out. You can pull the front pieces if you wanted.
  3. Try to braid back as much as you can.
  4. Do the other side. I also teased the back of my head a little so it stuck out over the braids.
  5. You could braid them both together and work your way down, but I went with more casual and tied them together.

I've always liked this look on me, I've just been so boring with my hair lately. Not anymore - started a hair challenge.

what's for dinner? meatball pita

Good morning everyone! Wondering what's for dinner tonight? I've got just the thing. First, our freezer is FILLED with deer meat from my father, so I've been trying to make new things out of it. Then, came meatball sandwich. It is so easy to make, but may take awhile.

Need:
1 pound of ground meat(hamburger, turkey, venison)
basil
breadcrumbs
shredded cheese
pita bread
marinara sauce
  • First, I mixed my deer meat with basil and then added breadcrumbs to be able to make it into small balls.
  • Add some oil into the skillet and fill it with meatballs
  • Let them brown on all sides and be sure they are fully cooked in the middle, this does take sometime. If you don't have time to stand at the stove, you can put them in a crock pot with marinara sauce.
  • After that, fill in the sides of your pita with marinara sauce. You may need to cut your meatballs in half to fit more in.
  • Add more marinara sauce, and top it with cheese. YUM!

Review: St. Ives Moisturizer

This shouldn't be under review, but rather obsession. I've had this lotion for sometime now, I'm almost half way through it. I heard about this lotion from the Dr. Oz Show, who said it is better than any expensive collagen lotion. I am all about this, I may only be 25 years old but aging gets closer and closer every year. It makes my skin feel like a babies bum when I put it on my face. I also use it on my hands and neck every morning. The best part about it, it's under $10.00 and you can get this at any drug store.

I am the weirdest person in my bathroom!

Trends: Must Have Spring '13

Spring is officially here in one month. Although the snow is still on the ground, I'm already thinking pastels. I have a few goals this Spring that include more flea markets, picnics, and outdoors. Here are some essentials to have this season.

  • light jacket - I'm thinking a bold coral
  • new pair of sandals  - the more foot and cute painted toes, the better.
  • sunblock - 30 spf of higher
  • camera - to shoot all those beautiful flowers

Des Moines first Flee Market starts March 2-3

see you there

Inspiration: Best Friend

This is my best friend Kasey, we have been friends for 100 years. She is my go-to girl and favorite partier. I love her style! She is always finding the cutest things at extremely good prices. I envy her shopping skills. For instance, THOSE PINK JEANS!

My boyfriends camera skills need work. He did not get a picture of our shoes like I told him too... Kasey had on black flats and I had on these babies. I purchases these from Charlotte Russe. They are 5 inches, but boy was I a dancing fool in them last night.

Haul: lip liner, fabric, cami

I Love Saturday mornings! I get my beauty sleep, enjoy my favorites shows, and on a good day I get out and do a little shopping. (A LITTLE) - online shopper, here! I am a beauty lover on a budget, so I only allow myself a few things at a time. Here is my haul from today. They are very Spring.

Walmart

  1. Who doesn't need a purple cami
  2. I saw this fabric and immediately loved it. Now what to do with it?
  3. New Find Alert: Flower by Drew Barrymore. I love her, & so when I saw this section in Walmart I had to try something. I purchased Line & Shine lip liner in Plum LP5. Cannot wait to try it! (oops, it's upside down)

I will do a review on the lip liner, as well as figure out what to do with the fabric. I got 3 feet of it, so please comment below if you have any suggestions.

what's for dinner? shrimp dip

I'm suppose to be eating healthy... this is not eating healthy. I decided, to make this dip because I have a lot of shrimp in my freezer that I need to eat up. Therefore, shrimp dip. I tried to make it as healthy as possible.

Preheat oven 375 - spray 8x8 pan with cooking spray

  • 4 oz fat free cream cheese
  • 1/2 c reduced fat sour cream
  • 1/2 c of hot sauce
  • 5-6 c small diced precooked shrimp (I used 4 cups and I feel I needed more)
  • 1/2 c reduced fat Sargento Mexican shredded cheese
Combine first 3 ingredients, mix
Add 1/2 c cheese and shrimp, mix
Bake for 20 minutes
I added more cheese on top, and baked for other 5 minutes.

WARNING! VERY ADDICTIVE!

Lip Scrub

Winter is almost over (wishful thinking) and to keep your lips from chapping I have found a few DIYs to keep them feeling soft. I go through chapstick like, geezo. But sometimes you just need a little sumthin' more. I tried a few different lip scrubs and here are my reviews. The best thing about these ingredients, is that you can find these in your cupboard.

First scrub
    1/2 tsp brown sugar
    1/2 tsp honey
    1/2 tsp olive oil
Mix these all together, let them sit on your lips for a minute, then scrub your lips with your finger.
REVIEW: Although it tasted yummy, it didn't do anything for me. I couldn't really feel the difference.

Second scrub
    1/2 tsp sea salt
    1/2 tsp coconut oil
Mix these two together and apply it do your lips and scrub.
REVIEW: I may be a little biased about this one because I LOVE coconut oil. I always use it on my hair. With that being said, it was definitely the best out of the two. I could really feel that my lips were smoother. The only downside is that is does not taste well. Icky sea salt
I didn't want to go out and buy more sea salt so I kinda made a salt mess with the grinder.

Be sure to apply your chapstick afterwards and your lipstick will just glide on your lips.

Good Morning, Bright Eyes

I hope you've had your coffee already. I know I'm going to need it today! I don't know about ya'll, but I do not wake up pretty. I can be scary in the morning. I normally have bags under my eyes, no matter how much sleep I get. This is a step by step of lightening up your eyes.

Tools: Soho London New York Beauty Sponge, EcoTools Bamboo Powder Brush, Kabuki Brush

Makeup: Maybelline New York Fit Me concealer: 15 Fair Clair, Rimmel London Hide The Blemish concealer: 103 Soft Honey, Covergirl Simply Powder Foundation: Ivory, Rimmel London Fix & Perfect Pro Primer: 002
  1. Start by washing your face with your favorite face wash
  2. Apply primer onto your powder brush and apply all over your face
  3. To remove the darkness under my eyes, I use my Rimmel London concealer
  4. Blend concealer in with your sponge
  5. To lighten up your under eyes apply Maybelline concealer
  6. Apply concealer in any spots that maybe blemished or red
  7. My face can be very oily, so I always apply my Covergirl powder
  8. Voila! I'm ready for my Monday work day

Have a great Monday

Brush Cleaning

Now don't be mad at me, but I NEVER wash my brushes. This is not a good habit to have. I promise to wash my brushes weekly... ok, I will try to monthly. After experimenting with dish soap and oil I think I found a good routine for me to keep. Plus, it was easy.

  1. Brushes!!
  2. I added dish soap and a little olive oil to a plate and dabbed my brush into it
  3. I don't own any expensive brushes, so I just went to town on scrubbing. I went really gentle on my Hello Kitty brushes though, obviously.
  4. Wash under water
  5. Make sure all the makeup is off the brush, and clean.
  6. Dry time. The brushes with the white handles are from E.L.F, the brown are EcoTools Bamboo from Walmart, my pink Hello Kitty brushes are from Sephora, my purple ones are Hello Kitty too. Oh, and my kabuki brush from Walmart

Happy Cleaning!

Fail: Sponge Nails

Ok, girls, we have to talk. I'm sure you've heard or seen pictures of "sponge nails" or  "ombre nails" In case you haven't. I love the idea of it. Well, I went ahead and tried it...

I picked out my colors and applied my nail hardener.
(Sally Hansen: 160 Hard- Core Party, Maybelline Color Show: 410 Impeccable Greys)

I applied my colors on the sponge...

Then, it failed. Horribly...

I am really disappointed that this did not work. I don't know how they do it, but it did not work for me. Here are some reasons why it didn't work.

  1. First, it's a sponge it's going to absorb liquid quickly. I couldn't keep up with applying.
  2. You need to add a lot of polish to the sponge in order to really see the color. I cherish my nail polish and don't want to waist it.
  3. It is very messy.. enough said.
All in all, I would say this does not work for me. Have you successfully done this before? If so please comment below and tell us how you did it! Good luck.

Inspiration: Rita Ora

Where does inspiration come from? How do you decide what you like and what works for you? Do you have a favorite celebrity style? I found my celeb style twin at seventeen.com. It's Rita Ora, a British singer-songwriter that has hits "How We Do (Party)" & "R.I.P". Love both of those songs, and her style. Twins? I accept.

best friends and birthdays

This weekend was a wild one. My best friend April came to town to stay with us.

-BACKGROUND-
April has been a friend of mine for... 6 years now! I met her at orientation our freshman year of college. It was love at first site you could say. We were roommates for a year and bffs ever since. She is such a breath of fresh air.
I miss her already.

We had such a fun Saturday night out. My friend Kasey's sister let us come out and help celebrate her birthday.

I love these girls!

vacuum powder

I have my very best friend coming into town from Chicago tonight. I can't be more excited. I had no motivation to clean last night. I made some vacuum powder to try and motivate myself. Worked half way, meaning I vacuumed half the apartment. Don't worry, I'll get it cleaned tonight.

I used a Parmesan cheese container and kinda just dumped.
Borax (bug killer)
Baking soda
Nutmeg to make it smell good

Can't wait to see her tonight.
